Volunteering at Presbyterian Homes
At Presbyterian Homes, we have a dedicated group of volunteers who selflessly give their time to help others. Their efforts have made a major difference in the quality of life for the residents who make Presbyterian Homes their home.
Presbyterian Homes offers many volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups. A program can be developed to meet your needs, as well as the needs of our residents. Whether you are able to share one day a month, or even one hour a day, your time spent at Presbyterian Homes is invaluable to the residents and staff.
We invite you to share your special talents with our residents, or consider volunteering in the following areas:
- One-on-one visiting with residents
- Assist the activities department with programs, parties or community outings
- Deliver mail and newspapers
- Assist with the monthly newsletter
- Assist nursing with refreshing and filling water pitchers for residents
- Call bingo
- Arts and crafts
- Letter writing
- Music therapies
- Pet Visits
Our staff can assist you in finding the volunteer opportunity that will bring you the most enjoyment and satisfaction. We hope you will join us by sharing your talents and skills with our residents.
End of Life Companionship
A volunteer opportunity involving sitting with residents who are near the end of their life if no family is available. Most are non-responsive but could be comforted by bringing some gentle music and portable unit for them to listen to while you are with them. You could read poems, short stories, or Biblical material. We believe that someone at the end of their life can always hear what we are saying to them even if they don’t respond. Touching a hand, wiping a forehead or combing someone’s hair lets them know you are there and they are not alone. This ministry takes a special person.
