Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care

Spiritual care is provided through the work of a part-time chaplain, and through clergy from area churches to provide total resident-focused care.

Pastoral Care Services

At Presbyterian Homes, Pastoral Care Services are available to residents, staff and family members,

  • To meet the religious needs of our residents
  • To encourage residents to participate in their religious beliefs, worship, devotions, ritual observations, and sacramental ministrations
  • To provide assurance and support in times of uncertainty and crisis
  • To maintain a tie with the community when the resident is separated from his/her normal life setting because of illness or infirmities
  • To provide visitation for prayer and consultation.

The Chaplain

Is an integral member of the healthcare team, providing pastoral care for residents, family and staff. The Chaplain is available to provide objective crisis intervention and spiritual support.

Other Services Provided:

Liaison for Local Clergy-

The Chaplain may see a resident before his or her minister is aware of the admission to the facility. With the resident’s permission, the Chaplain can call the family pastor, priest, rabbi, or other religious leader.

Contact for the Community-

The Chaplain assists the Activity Department, as needed, to coordinate services provided by local clergy to conduct in-house worship services, bible study groups and spiritual development groups, and various other spiritual programs.

Family Support-

The Chaplain is available to help the resident’s family with the stresses of dealing with a loved one’s illness. The Chaplain serves as a trusted friend and pastoral figure.

In-House Pastor for Staff-

The chaplain is an understanding friend and confidant. The Chaplain can provide a listening ear and a pastoral point of view for the staff as they face professional and personal problems.
